Today is the day!

#1 Post by Bracedforbraces »

In 3 hours time I will get my braces fitted and all of a sudden I'm petrified :yikes:
Will it hurt? Will I gag on the cement they use to fix the braces? Will I chicken out?
I feel sick I'm so scared. I think if I knew they would only be on for 6 months it wouldn't seem so daunting, but 18 months of my life with these clunky devices on my teeth seems like such a huge commitment all of a sudden.
Everyone is being really supportive so I'm not worried what people think, I'm worried about how I will react in the dentists chair. I tend to throw up when I'm nervous!
I'm making chicken soup (in preparation for no chewing) to try and take my mind off it but it's not working.
Was anyone this scared on B day?
Any calming words of wisdom would be really appreciated.

Getting them on is easy. There is no pain at all. Just sit in the chair and relax. You might get pain later that night and some soreness for a few weeks after but as you get used to them that will all go away. It will be worth it in the long run.

Good luck today and let us know how it goes! :-*

good luck today :D you will be fine. i felt the exact same way on my brace-day. in fact upto an hour before the appointment i was going to pick the phone up and cancelled but i pushed myself to go through with it. sitting in the ortho's chair was the easy part, it was the build-up for about a week prior to the appointment that really affected me. when you walk out of that ortho office with your braces on, you will feel a sense of relief. trust me, it is worth it. all the best and we look forward to seeing some pics :D

Thanks tmroy79 and Kelly b, I really appreciate the moral support. I am literally walking out the door now as my appointment is at 2pm ( British time). Eeeek.
I'm glad I decided to quickly check my board post as you have both reassured me :-** :-**

It went fine, nothing at all to worry about
No pain, no nasty cement whatever he used didn't have a taste. I have no pain yet. They do look strange though and the feeling is bizarre. I wasn't expecting the wires to be so wonky as all the promotional pics show perfectly straight brackets and wires, whereas mine are all higgletypigglety.
Because I was so nervous this morning I didn't eat and now I am starving so I am about to have some scrambled egg. Wonder if I could suck it through a straw so as not to get my brand new braces mucky lol :)
Then I think I might walk to the local shop and show my braces to the world, can't stay tight lipped forever! Speaking of lips, the braces give me a lovely full top lip, I look like I've had a bit of filler injected. I can see some new lipgloss shopping will be needed.

regarding lips, my bottom lip is about twice the size of what it use to be prior braces lol. i am hoping it does go back to normal when the braces are off as i did have full lips to begin with

You totally just received cool points and made me laugh for the unexpected use of higgletypigglety!

Glad it went well this morning, the improvements are SO cool to see and hope you'll be un-higgletypigglety-fied ASAP!

Welcome to the club! Have a delightful day, and don't forget to have fun with it and SMILE!

Hahaha thanks denSMSgt, so glad my use of language amused you :D
It took me 20 minutes, yes 20 minutes, to eat a small bowl of scrambled egg. I swear my stomach was growling with hunger so I opened a tin of rice pudding and virtually poured it down my neck, bliss.
Right I am going to try and upload some pics then I can officially be 'one of the gang'. I'm a bit worried how big they will be so apologies in advance if they are monsterously huge.
Still no pain.... I am starting to get a bit ocean about it now, I bet I will feel like a sledgehammer has hit me in the morning :-+

??????????????????????????????

'Ocean' - I never said that, it must have thought I was being rude. The word I tried to use was c.o.c.k.y. as in over confident.
This site is funny
