Hey all,

quick intro - i'm a 32 yr old guy from Boston who just made the decision to get braces. had spacers this morning, and the braces (clear ceramic on top only, initially) will go on next tuesday.

looking forward to the process with a lot of anxiety, but also excitement.

How to the spacers feel? DO they hurt?

I never had JUST spacers...My ortho placed the brackets and bands (#7) on my upper as well as spacers in between the #7 & # 6 upper molars the very same day....

I also had brackets placed on my lowers and a short arch wire that ended on the last bracket( bcuz i didnt have bands placed on my lowers)

So i had spacers below and uptop with brackets & everything else..

no pain from the spacers.. knock on wood. i can feel movement, and flossing last night was next to impossible (tightened up all my spaces), but it has not hurt yet.

i took some aleve yesterday before the appointment, and then again before bed last night, but nothing today, and i've been eating as normal and no pain - minimal discomfort, but nothing distracting.

So it's been almost a week since i got my upper braces on, and it's been much easier than i had anticipated. I've had no pain (some soreness, but nothing requiring anything more than an aleve), and i've been eating most of the same things as pre-braces - barring anything that requires biting with the front teeth.

I have the bottom spacers in for another week, and then i'll have my lower bands placed, with a lingual holding arch. The spacers are not bothering me, which is good.

All in all, I think I was expecting much worse, and it's really been fairly easy thus far. :D Hung out with a lot of friends I have not seen in a while (and who didn't know i was getting braces), and no one even noticed until i pointed them out..
