Six Month Smiles - about to do it.

#1 Post by johnmayer »

Hi

I want to get Six Month Smiles. I've been debating with my father - but he has been strict for the last 2 years of me wanting them. He would always say no. But now I have enough money to buy them myself - and I have been able to be a little more assertive and convince him that this is what I will be doing. Most of my teeth are "fine", and not too bad, but what in particular - one on the right side (canine) that sticks out a little to the side. I wanted to know - will they affect my speech? I sing a lot, and I practice a few hours every day. I absolutely have to do that. Will this affect my speech/pronounciation when i'm singing?

I hope someone can help :)

I have Six Month Smiles - have had them about 4 1/2 months now.

Yes they will probably affect your speaking - maybe not your singing so much. You may find you need to exaggerate your pronunciation a bit. If I get sloppy I lisp a bit but I can keep that under control with a little concentration.

I too have 6 month smiles. Yes it has affected my speech a little although I have noticed no difference to my singing.

One thing I can no longer do though is whistle, only found this out when I went to call my dog!

Hi

thanks for your replies :)

Maybe I should clarify -

sure, it won't affect my singing because the actual sound comes from the vocal cords - but since speech plays a part in pronouncing words and "shaping" the sound into actual words and communication - it probably will effect the overall singing I'm talking about. i probably wouldn't be able to record or anything... hmm... back to thinking.. :( i went for my consultation last week and will be able to start within the next month. really want to make a decision.. i so want this..

Did you make a decision yet John? :)

I found I was a bit lispy for the first few weeks, but my speech is normal now. I don't think it would affect singing too badly since you are much more forcefully moving your lips. I found my mouth a bit sore for a couple of weeks, even while talking, but you get used to it very quickly. I'm only three months in and my dentist thinks I could be done next month, so if you really want to change your teeth I'd say go for it. : )

I can't whistle either! ; )
