New Here Getting Braces @ 34
Hello everyone! I am new here, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I am 34 years old, and just did my records appointment on Saturday (along with a hefty $1,500 down payment! Ouch...).
Originally, I was interested in Invisalign, but that didn't work out so here I am getting top and bottom metal braces (3M Unitek Victory Low Profiles) on June 11th. I can't believe it to be honest LOL.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks everyone!

I hope everything is going well, and the braces are treating you as well as they can! I get my braces on June 30th.

Hey everyone! Thank you for all of this support! I got braces on Wednesday, and I have to say, it really was a piece of cake. It was actually very relaxing HAHA. It took a little over an hour (around 1:15) and I have to say, I was expecting to be super sore by the afternoon, but I wasn't! I heard stories of people waking up the next day in a ton of pain, and I wasn't! (everyone is different). So far (and I'm only 2 days in), my 2 major issues are:
1. Eating - It hurts like hell to eat right now. My front teeth are useless, and only my molars in the far back right side of my mouth can handle any kind of chewing. Eating is no fun at all right now.
2. Cleaning up after eating - I think more food gets stuck in my braces than the amount that actually makes it to my stomach. Cleaning my mouth is a MUST after every meal, and it's not always very convenient to take care of this when you're out.
Here they are!

My advice to you is to get your hands on soft foods and a water pick and you'll be all set

I am not too worried. I am a mouth pain baby, but I have a bunch of pain meds, my water pick, salt for salt water rinses, lots of wax, and a freezer of homemade soups, a staple in the house
I am glad things are going well. I hear a lot of people say they just don't chew on the bad days.

The braces look good...nice and clean. I like these low profile braces.

I have to say, I think the low profile's are awesome! For one, I have heard from multiple people that some brackets stick out and make things a lot more difficult. When your brackets stick out, they bother your lips a lot more, make your braces more uncomfortable, etc.... My braces feel very comfortable in my mouth. I have not had any major sores yet, irritation, etc. My braces feel pretty comfortable to be honest! The low profile braces do feel like they're very low profile (in other words, you can feel the difference....not that I know what non-low profile feels like).
Here's a picture that was taken probably about literally 2 minutes after I walked out of my Orthodontist (probably 2 minutes after my braces were finished being put on). As you can see.....my lip was cut in the process from being stretched out a lot, but that's ok.

Hi rocco11510. I just got my braces a few days ago, and I was surprised at how small my brackets were. As of now, there's no need for dental wax. I have no idea what brand they are. Maybe I'll ask at my next adjustment.
Hopefully things are still going well. Please keep us posted.

Congrats on getting braces! Your situation sounds a LOT like mine. I also had no need for wax. I was also shocked at how small my brackets were as well! I don't think mine look small in the above pictures, but they are in fact a lot smaller than what I have seen on others in the past.
I have only used wax once....I used it on my wire in the back by the tube that holds the wire. The wire was poking through and hitting my cheek, and my cheek kept getting caught. The wax was great in stopping that from happening. However, I have not needed any wax at all from any irritation from my brackets.
Keep us in the loop as to how you're doing your first week!

Thank you for asking! I have to say, it's going great! The difference between the photo that you see above on my first day, and now 9 months later is huge! I haven't seen that day 1 photo in a long time, and looking at it now is pretty shocking to me haha. I will take a picture and upload an update tomorrowaspiromusings wrote:Hey, just reading your thread, how are your braces going?
