Here we go again...
At 31 I'm starting treatment for the third time. The real moral of my story is: wear your retainers for as long as you'd like to have straight teeth. I had braces as a teenager and didn't wear my retainer, so I got invisalign in my 20's but invisalign couldn't fix some issues I was too stubborn to fix with traditional braces. Now I have wonky bicuspid that was never fixed, a misaligned midline, and two molars that don't touch. I've had three consultations and have heard three different solutions. All have said metal on at least some of my bottom teeth for at least 6 months, one said fix midline, two said fix molars, none mentioned top braces (hopefully it stays that way). With that, it's nive to find a place dedicated to adults for this type of conversation; I already hate the looks from the elementary school kids in the ortho offices I've visited. It's going to be an interesting 6+ months...

Wise words re the retainers! My dentist is now thinking about what happens next and was obviously starting to give me the 'wear your retainers' peptalk and I didn't have the heart to say not to bother cos that thing will be welded to my mouth for as long as it takes!! I've not gone through all this for nowt!

An update: I go for my records appointment on 2 November. I must have talked to half a dozen different orthos. I found most of them found/saw similar problems and now I'm quite confident in my choice of an ortho. I'll be sure to let you guys know how the records appointment goes.

The elementary school kid thing was a big draw back to me too - which was part of a factor in choosing my current ortho - smaller practice so no waiting rooms full of kids. The practices that I called that asked me immediately "and how old is your child?" turned me off.nitro wrote:At 31 I'm starting treatment for the third time. I suppose I should update this. I've started posting things here:

Long story short: Records went well, spacers were as bad as I remembered, I now have full brackets on bottom with pink ligatures.
