Hello Everyone!
I'm 22 year old and just got braced this September! All throughout childhood, I never really felt that I needed braces, because my teeth were straight. My siblings had really bad teeth, so both of them had braces during elementary/high school. I used to laugh at them for wearing braces, while I had nice teeth, but now the tables have turned-- they're now the ones laughing at me! Oh the irony!
When I was around 19 years old, I became really self-conscious about my teeth because I noticed that they stuck out, but it wasn't enough for me to get braces. With time, I began to think more about my teeth, and I would notice it in pictures as well. In a photo taken at a family function, I see the perfect teeth of my siblings, then I saw my teeth, which were perfectly straight, but my smile was too 'toothy' (buck teeth). After seeing that photo, I took the plunge and asked for my parents' help with funding my braces.
My orthodontist recommended the extraction of my 4 bicuspids, 2 years of treatment (regular metal braces), and permanent retainers. My main concern is fixing my overjet and my lip incompetence.
I can't wait to see the end result!
