Braces tomorrow

#1 Post by Dragonfly »

Hi everyone,
I discovered Archwired a few weeks ago and since I will be getting braces tomorrow I thought I would share my story. Here is the link to my story and pictures: http://dragonfly78.blogspot.com I have had a lot of questions answered by looking through the posts and I am really glad that this forum exists. I am glad there is a place where I will be able to ask questions or just vent and maybe help others in their journey to a great smile. I think what I will be looking forward to most tomorrow is getting these spacers out. I had 12 of them put in almost 2 weeks ago and I wanted to yank them out the next day. I have been so paranoid about them falling out, but luckily they have stayed put. I don't know if it is just my imagination, but it seems like my teeth have gotten more crooked since having them put in. I don't think the pain would have been as bad if they hadn't put in so many. I hope that what I have read is true and these spacers really are the worst part of it all. I am really looking forward to tomorrow. :D

Dragonfly,

Good luck tomorrow! Keep us all posted about how everything went. I had my brackets put on last week and go back this week to get my wire and expanders. Your teeth will look great pretty soon. I also hate the spacers.

Braces Day

#3 Post by Dragonfly »

I got my braces this morning. :) My teeth are a little sore, but I'm sure it will feel worse tomorrow. The whole thing went pretty smoothly. You can click on my www link below to see pictures. So far I have no problems except for the fact that I can't bite down all the way due to one of my top teeth hitting a bracket on the bottom. I am afraid that I am going to bite down too hard and it will break off, but I was told just to "be careful." Somehow I don't think I will make it to my next appointment in 6 weeks before the bracket breaks off. I will probably be paranoid about it every time I eat. I should have just asked them to fix it, but instead I am going to just try and deal with it until my next appointment. I will probably regret it when I am forced to go back because it breaks off, but oh well. It definitely feels strange having all this metal in my mouth. It will take some time for me to get used to it. I just have to keep telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end :D

Braces look good. I'm sure by now you're experiencing just a little discomfort :-+ , but not to worry it only lasts for 2 or 3 years, sorry, I meant days. Get used to the snagging on the brackets. Almost every time I laugh or smile it still happens to me. I don't think you ever really get used to wearing these things. Anyways, well done and congrads!

Looks great Dragonfly ... I got braces 6 days ago and I have a lower front bracket that hits the upper tooth. I asked my ortho about moving it. He said the bracket was in its proper place and things should start moving soon so it will not hit anymore. I have an appointment with my ortho tomorrow to get my archwires and a popped bracket repaired that the OS messed up on my 4 bicuspid extractions on the day after my braces went on :-+!!! I am going to ask him again about thie bracket that's hitting, and I'll let you know what he says.

Day after braces

#6 Post by Dragonfly »

Thanks for your words of encouragement. :D This morning I didn't feel as horrible as I thought I would. My teeth are a little sore and the inside of my mouth is getting a little raw from the braces rubbing, but other than that I feel okay. I am going to try to avoid using wax as I was told to try not to, otherwise I will just prolong the pain and I need to get my mouth used to the braces. I think as long as I don't get too many canker sores I'll be able to avoid using the wax. I hope it doesn't take too long for my teeth to move so I won't have to worry about the tooth that is hitting the bracket anymore :)

Sorry you have to go back in so soon Stellar, I hope all goes well. I am crossing my fingers that I won't have to go back until my 6-week appointment.
