Hiya

#1 Post by Lucifina »

Well I found your site yesterday and have been checking it out and it is quite informative!
I am 26 and decided to get braces. I guess I have always need them but when I was in high school my parents told me that if I wanted braces I would have to pay for them myself. They did take me to an ortho who told me I would need to have my jaw broken and that was the only way I could get braces so I said “No thanks!â€

Hiya! :D
Thanks for the welcome!
Well after seeing all the pics and reading what others are going through, it doesn’t seem too bad. How long does it take between the molds and getting it done? I have molds on 11/16 but I have the 17th – 20th off work so if I gotta get teeth yanked outta my face I wanna do it when I can feel sorry for myself at home. Is that even possible or am I gonna have to wait? And what are spacers? :?

Hi and welcome :) . I know what you mean about the extractions I was scared myself  . I had to have 2 molars out pre braces and it was something I couldn't stop thinking about till the time the orto told me I had to have them out. I can honestly say that it was a breeze, I didn't feel any pain but chose to have an extra needle just in case I did. I was back to work the next day - no dramas.

Good luck - You can do it! - Keep us posted :computer:

Thanks! That makes me feel better :D I just called my ortho today and I just talked to the secretary so I don’t know how accurate the info I got was but she said I get the molds on the 16th and then usually about a month later they put the braces on and then take the teeth out after the braces are on. I was hoping it would be sooner:( but we shall see. Maybe I can get him to fit me in; in 3 weeks…I have another 4 day weekend, Yay! I still know I am wimp

I can totally relate to that! Getting the braces was a walk in the park compared to that!

I got my 4 wisdoms removed in 4 sessions. Don't know what`s worse - all of them at once or the same thing 4 times. Only local anesthesia. Every session was 2 hours of nightmare. I felt every move, the "saw", hammer, you name it. If it was a dry socket I don`t know but I think I did see my bone there but thought that's how it is supposed to be  There was a wound with stitches, really nasty stuff. I could eat only mushy, cold food for a few days after each pullout. (how much choice of food is that? I lost 4 kilos in one week). The hole left by the surgery healed in a couple of days but the ditch in the bone lasted for weeks and I always got food stuck there which was painful and annoying to remove (a mirror and a pokey device were my companions).

Braces are NOT like that!! I also ate only mushy food for at least 5 days but you can eat warm meals at least! After that it gets better. Now after 1 week I had fried sausages and it was fine! Food gets stuck there, always and a LOT, but it does not hurt you! Just ignore it, enjoy eating and deal with it after the meal. At least when I eat at home I have no problem with that.

Braces on in 23 days!

#9 Post by Lucifina »

Well I had the molds, photos, and x-rays done today!
I made an appointment to get the brace put on Dec 8th! I will have my pre braces consult at the same time. If I wanted the consult separate I would have had to have waited :( So I figured whatever, I am gonna do it anyway so why not! I am so excited! They told me the teeth are pulled after the braces are on  so I still have that to look forward to. I am gonna see if they will be so kind as to give me copies of my photos or e-mail them to me or something. I would like to keep track and show off :D
Hope everyone is doing well! :-1
