I found my expander online--other stuff too, advise please..

A couple people have asked me what kind of palatal expander I have. I just found it. Its an E-Arch and I found a picture here: http://www.greatlakesortho.com/pdf/Mont ... B06_p6.pdf it would be the one on the right hand side of the page.
Today (4 mo. into my treatment) I got that yucky spring removed!! YAY. They set my expander because I have all the movement needed in the front part of my palate. I must say it was disgusting as lots of food and bacteria get stored in it

The ortho informed me I will be getting some button thing (not sure) on my back molars and will be getting bands that are to be placed inside the upper teeth and stretch diagnal to the OUTSIDE of my lower teeth
. This is supposed to help fix my cross bite in the back of my mouth.
Has ANYONE had anything like this done before? If so, what's it like? Do the bands snap off and hurt? Will I talk funny again?
