I have seen this discussed in the distant past on this board but cannot locate the thread. Can you direct me back to it or remind me of the answer?
I got braces 15 months ago primarily to correct a deep bit and some crowding on bottom. I had braces as a teen and had 4 teeth removed plus wisdom teeth removed. This time, the braces have pulled my upper teeth up out of the way of lowers, and have expanded them outwards a bit and opened up my bite. Now we are waiting for the lowers to straighten up and crowding to disappear, as they were tipped in a bit from the overbite.
My upper teeth, which were small and worn some from overbite, have all but disappeared behind my lips as they have moved up. I recall reading that often an orthodontist will often move them up out of the way, then straighten out the lowers, and eventually move the uppers back down some to slightly overlap the lowers in the final stages of braces.
Is this typical? I will ask my ortho at next visit but that is not until late May, and I'd like to have an idea whether this is typical before I ask him.
Thanks so much!Q

I'm not an expert, but that sounds weird to me. Maybe you should talk to your orthodontist about this. Have you and your ortho discussed this in detail? Is he/she really planning to move them back down? Make sure to ask about that. Also, if they are worn down, that could be why they seem to disappear. In my opinion, if you feel uncomfortable with the process, speak up. Have your ortho explain. It's good to clear the air and know what'll happen. Good luck! Sorry this isn't the best answer.
