I am not asking for your opinion of anything orthodontic. I am asking for your thoughts about a patient of mine. I was just informed that she is in kidney failure and needs a transplant. I saw her in the hospital yesterday and the first thing I saw when I walked in was a big smile with a big purple power chain on her teeth and she said "hey, Dr. J!" She is 14 years old and beautiful, a straight-A student, and is pretty much a parents dream. Her mother is my treatment coordinator. Would you please take pause today to think about how precious life is and how each day is beautiful?
Life is indeed very precious! I work at a middle school and have experienced some of the children's tragedies over the years & each one makes me more aware of how fragile life really is. I hope this little girl will be ok, she has my prayers

Sounds like she is in good spirits, Dr. J and that has a lot to do with her health and recovery. I think it's awesome that you dropped by to see her. I'll definitely keep her in my thoughts. Maybe you could organize a little fundraiser or something in your office. Other patients (and/or staff) could bring in a book or magazine or a little something that you could take her while she's in the hospital. Just a thought
Wishing her a speedy treatment and recovery,
Jenn

True, maybe my bite probles are nothing in comparison with such problems
I have 2 terminaly ill family members and I can not help them, no-one can... :/
But she is in USA, she has the best treatment in the world, she will be ok, many children in poor countries have no chances...
An inspirational young lady - my thoughts are with her.

She is okay for now. Transplant is in the works but she has to build her strength with medication. I saw her this week and by golly she was still wearing her class 2 elastics! If she can wear her rubber bands than any patient can. We are all going to be tested for possible donation but that's like finding a needle in a stack of needles. If things get bad, at least there is dialysis to bridge the gap. This girl is a fighter.
