Open bite question?

I do not have any pics but I will try to describe as best I can. Last year I started suffering from TMJ issues so I got a splint that I wore at night. Be fore this my teeth were perfect because I had braces before. I wore this for about 4 months. Over this time I did not realize it but it changed my bite were I could not close my mouth properly. I could not touch my front teeth together. After only 3 1/2 months of braces my teeth are coming together very nicely. My question is have you ever seen or heard of anything like this before, and should I expect that since this problem only took a few months to happen that I vould expect it to only take a few to be fixed?

I have heard that splints can create an open bite unfortunately.
I guess its a choice of doing less damage to your teeth wearing the splint or suffer the possibility of an open bite.
