my jaw keeps popping

i went in today for my eigth or so adjustment, and all night i've noticed my jaw has been poping or making grinding noises when i open it on the right side. it also kind of hurts. this isn't TMJ is it? i've never had this happen before until today.

Joint sounds and pain do fit under the spectrum of temporomandibular joint disorder. This is a complex situation. The "causes" of TMD are of heated debate. Contributors but not causes can be but are not limited to:

1) prior injury to the head/neck region
2) parafunctional habit - clinching and grinding
3) stress
4) poor occlusion (not a primary cause but a contributor -hot button issue)

You may find that this will ebb and flow.
