Question for Docs : Powerchain removed and rubber thread now

#1 Post by Bluerain »

Hi docs,

They removed powerchain(For retracting teeth ) and put on a super rubber thread which looks just like thread but it's rubber..LOL

What's your thoughts on rubber thread. It will be used for the same purpose as powerchains to retract teeth.

Are they common and any advandtages over powerchains?

Any info would be great!

Thanks so much for your time:)

When I had braces I had these a couple of times. In fact, in my final month, I was being prepared for my bonded upper retainer. My upper left lateral incisor was still rotated a bit, so my ortho used some thread to actually move the tooth (right then and there) to the proper position before adding the retainer! For the next month I had the thread and a powerchain to help keep the tooth in that position.

Actually, both times I had them I also had powerchains.

I don't know much about them and I know when I had them I kind of struggled to understand their purpose and I questioned their usefulness -- but they seemed to do their job.
