Clear or metal brackets

#1 Post by To be braced Carol »

Had my 2nd consoltation today and I get fixed braces next week, she today fitted me in the seperators which are real strange and uncomftable.

I have been given the choice of clear or metal brackets, but she said the clear will slow the process down and may chip as I have a very deep over bite, what type of braces would you recomend me having

Thanks Carol

metal or ceramic

#2 Post by cteri »

Dear Carol,

Hi - my name is Carol too. Just thought I'd give you my 2 cents. I've had ceramics for a year and a half and with hindsight wish I'd gotten metal. Reasons? First of all it seems true about speed (I had my bottom 4 teeth changed to metal midway and movement was noticeably quicker). Secondly, ceramics are fatter and make your mouth seem fuller - this is unpleasant. They also stain. Plus, it's not like ceramics are invisible, they can be seen - so what's the difference?

Hope it helps.

p.s. oh yeah, metal costs much less too!!

Had my braced fitted today, I arrived at the ortho office 1/2 hr before my appointment feeling very nervouse but curiouse what I would look like in 2hrs time . I sat and drank a cup of coffee and chated with a mother whos daughter was in having braces fitted, she came out of the surgery and I was very curiose at her new look, she smiled and all that went through my mind was oh dear me next.

The nurse came over to me and took me into the surgery, the ortho was looking at my xrays, I was now very nervouse, she smiled at me and fitted the lip spreaders, i hated them at first but soon got used to it.

The whole fitting was not bad except the bitter taste of the fluid they cleaned my teeth with and tension when she fitted the arch wires at 1st.

My first look at my new look in the mirror was mixed with shock but excitement
