Traumatized pallet from Nance Appliance

#1 Post by Dreamer »

My nance appliance was removed yesterday in an emergency ortho appt as it started digging into my pallet really badly after my loops were activated two days prior. I cannot believe the condition of where the nance anchored onto my pallet. It's got a few very sore areas and 24 hrs after removal of appliance the area is still all dented in and hurts alot. Is this a normal thing when this appliance is removed after having it for 7 months?

Hi Lucy..
My orthodontist just said "I'm really glad you came back and that it served it's purpose but it had to come out now". I don't think she realized just how poorly the condition of under that Nance was! It got tight within two days of tightening my loops. Boy..I never want to go through that again. It's starting to get a little better but it's very soft and tender where the acrylic was sitting and there is even a bit of loss of feeling up there when I push my tongue on it. Hopefully it will get better soon! Best suggestion I have for anyone is that if your TPA gets really tight really fast..go in and get it checked!

Your post hit a little too close to home for me as I had the same experience with my RPE.
I had to have an emergency removal also because of the appliance digging into my upper left side.
It's been about 2 weeks and I still have indentations. I was told to rinse with walm salt water....it doesn't hurt anymore but the indents kind of worry me.

they had to take new molds of my upper jaw and have a new appliance made for me.
I pray to God that this doesn't happen again!

Good luck to you!

Oh Bethany..
I sympathize with you. This was a horrible experience. I'm four days past having it removed and the feeling is still not back like it should be. Seems to me these appliances should be checked much more often by the orthodontists! I hope you don't have anymore trouble with your RPE! Mine was tight all the way across the front and the back of the acrylic part on my nance appliance so I have quite a large area that is hurt right now.
