I'm Scared!!!!

I have this wisdom tooth that has erupted & is through the gum....Its pointy and every time I close my mouth, it pokes into the inside of my mouth.....Also, when when I touch the gum around the tooth, it hurts. What will they do when I go to the dentist about it next week!?

general or IV sedation? there's a big difference.

Wisdom teeth that have erupted can often be removed with a simple extraction (numb it up and pull it out). It's when they are impacted that you have to have surgery for it but teenagers do it everyday and are just fine so don't worry. I know it's scary but don't stress yourself out over it.

I had one impacted and one erupted wisdom tooth removed about 2 years ago. the WHOLE thing lasted about 15 minutes. The erupted tooth came out in about 2 minutes.

My ortho and dentist have told met that the remining 2 (wisdom teeth) may stay in my mouth as long as they play nice with the other teeth. Not all dentists/orthos require wisdom teeth (3rd molars) be removed just "because they are there". Your gum may be sore because of the tooth erupting; not because a problem.
