Retainer Question

#1 Post by sunflr77 »

Are hawley retainers the only retainers that are able to close spaces after braces have been removed?

I'm scheduled for debanding next Wednesday and I'm supposed to get upper and lower bonded retainers as well as essix retainers. I'm concerned that there is a small space between my left central and lateral and with the retainers that I'm scheduled to get there will be nothing that can be done to address it when the braces come off.

Hi :) I'm not an expert, but to my knowledge a Hawley is the only kind of retainer that can close gaps...but then again there is Invisalign, maybe they could just do 3 or 4 trays of those? But don't worry, your orthodontist wouldn't remove your braces unless you were ready. Good luck!!
Damon 2's top and bottom, BRACED 02/22/04 and REMOVED 08/29/05. Now in bonded retainers (top and bottom) :4 wisdom teeth surgically removed on 12/22/05:
