Invisalign Retainer Question

Assuming everything goes good with my Invisalign treatment I will end up with a retainer made by Invisalign. My Dentist intends on giving me two crowns for my fronth teeth and also wants to do shaping when the treatment is over. If I end up getting crowns and shaping done my teeth will be different than the last aligner I used. Would I need to have new molds done for my invisalign retainer and if so what would I do during the waiting period between teeth shapening and receiving my retainer to keep my teeth straight?

Hi. I am not a doctor, but I would say, Yes, you will need to get more molds done. I would assume (if you asked) your orthodontist could make an Essex retainer (molds would be taken for this) to be used until your dental work is done. Then you could have the molds taken again and get the Invisalign retainer. That is just what I could see happening, if in fact, you are to get your retainer made by Invisalign. In any case, you will have to have a second set of molds if you are going to have dental work done after your braces come off. The only way I see around that is to have the dental work done the same day or next day your braces come off and then get the molds done for your retainer.

Yes you will need new impressions for retainers, but Invisialign will not make retainers off new impressions. Unless they have changed their policy over the last year. I have had several adult patients that had crowns and wanted a "real" Invisalign retainer, but I had to make in office essix/trutains for them.
