How long do they usually leave them in.

Some people only have them for a few days to a week. Mine were two weeks.

How long did they hurt? That sounds like a long time to wait to be braced; did it seem that way to you?

Spacers... ugh! I've had my fair share of those.
1st round- 1 week (top only)
2nd round- 2 weeks (top only)
3rd round- 1 week (top only)
4th round- 2 weeks (top only)
5th round- 1 week (bottom only)
6th round- 1 week (bottom only)
7th round- 3 weeks (top only)
The first two rounds were for my first expander, which broke, leading into the 3rd and 4th rounds which were for my second expander. 5th round was so they could band the bottom 1st molars. 6th round was because one of the bottom bands broke so they had to replace it. And then the 7th round was because my first ortho kept pulling the bloody bracket off (3 times in one appt.) and got fed up and decided to band the tooth. Every time, I hated them.
