centered midline: best for occlusion?

Hi docs,

I have a question about whether a centered midline is required for the best result......I have wore "cross-bite" elastics for about six months to correct a cross-bite on my right side (top 1st molar was in a little) and then triange elastics to work on my open bite.......this worked, and in the process centered my midline.....however, a cross-bite developed on my left side (top 1st molar in a little) (I guess by moving my bite/jaw)...The ortho. started me on upside down triangle elastics the other day and I could feel my jaw slightly moving back to the right (confirmed by my midline being off a bit)...but my bite looks like it will fit together better this way b/c it looks like it got rid of both cross-bites (although midline off) (I can't test my bite b/c only my front teeth touch bottom brackets).....I guess my question is what is better: a slight cross-bite w/ centered mid-line or no cross-bite w/ off-midline from a functioning standpoint, as opposed to a vanity reason?
