Getting them off before I am supposed to?

#1 Post by MissAshley »

Hello :) I'm new to the site (I love it! ;D) and I am just so sick of wearing braces. I'm 20 years old, and I have had them for 12 monthes now. I think my teeth look great, and I was told that after I get the braces off, I would need to wear a retainer for a year continually, then for a year after that, just at night. & then after that, permanent retainer would be put in place. My question is...if I have them taken off now (my Dr. told me another 5 or 6 monthes is in order), and I have the permanent retainer put on, will that keep them in place?
(I want them off because as a student, I cannot afford to have them any longer;x My insurance does not cover it, and my parents don't want to cover the rest of the treatment, because they deem it to be unnecessary)

Taken from my orthodontic information form;
Type of malocclusion being treated CL1 (12) CL11 (L), Deep bite, Mx/Md Arch Discrepancy

Full treatment case
Mx/Md bands, Mx Brackets
Md brackets
Hilgers Distalizer (has been removed)

Type of retention
MX Hawley & MD lingual 3x3 fixed

Pictures :) (don't laugh! it's late, haha)

Thanks in advance for any replies! It is very much appreciated.

Just from what I have read here several times, a lot of small but significant minor adjustments and "finishing" takes place in the last few months, even when it seems to you that your teeth are "done".

If there's any risk with early removal, it's not worth it. An extra six months for perfect teeth your whole life is a very small sacrifice.
