I considering orthodontic treatment, and I was hoping to make an appointment with a Wilckodontic specialist in my area. I want to have the procedure done ASPA, but I believe that my top wisdom tooth is starting to come in. Am I still a candidate for the procedure? Will this complicate the process? Can a wisdom tooth be extracted before it begins to 'rupture'?

As of now, I am going through with the AOO procedure, and was told beforehand by my dentist that I need to get them extracted (1 of them is impacted.) Since I wanted to rush the procedure and get the braces on and off as soon as possible, I asked if I could get the braces before I took the wisdom teeth out, which would have del ayed everything a few weeks. My ortho/perio said it doesn't matter, and that the wisdom teeth could come out before/during/after braces.

My case seems to be a little different then yours - however, judging by what my ortho told me, it doesn't really matter for you either.

During the surgery, I was very numb, and given additional sedatives meant to keep me calm. I actually fell asleep and woke back up for the bottoms (I was irregular and had 2 seperate surgerys, one for the top, and one for the bottom.) I went home and slept for many hours afterwords, while others constantly put ice on my mouth and took it off.

The first day, I was limited to cold foods that I could drink. After about 36 hours, I was eating soft foods, and after 3 days, I began to eat fairly normally.

As for pain, it was minimal. The doctor reccomended that I take vicodin the first 3 days, but I always stopped after two, and didn't feel any discomfort because of it. I didn't brush for the first week, and after I started again, it hurt a little. Jan 6th was my 2nd surgery, and as of now, I'm completely back to normal. I was even eating pizza yesterday.

I'll also add that I was told I healed much quicker then most. I think its mostly because I'm still young at only 17, while most patients at my ortho's office are part of the older crowd.
