How long after extractions can braces be put in?

My orthodontist said I need to have my two top pre-molars extracted to create space in my mouth before having braces put in. How long do I have to wait after my teeth are pulled out and the braces put in?

I had my upper braces for 10 months before I had to have 2 upper pre-molar extractions. My upper archwire was off for 3 weeks total prior to and after extractions. Some posters have talked about getting their braces only a couple of days after extractions so I think it varies by ortho.

I will be getting a tooth pulled on Monday the 23rd, I'm not sure which one but its somewhere in my lower jaw and I will be getting my lower braces on Wednesday the 25th.

My ortho told me to leave a week between having my extractions done, and the appointment to get braced.

I called the ortho's office today and they told me that I could literally have the teeth pulled out and the braces put in the same day. Sounds a bit drastic to me...

I can't wait to see what course the treatment will take!

My ortho told me I had to wait 2 weeks. My dentist told me the same thing.

I had 6 teeth pulled and 2 adult impacted canines exposed and bonded after about 9 months of braces and then had an adjustment 3 weeks later!

Next Adjustment is 2/1/06 where they will bond a bracket to my cuspid which was impacted!!!!

I had all 4 of my wisdoms pulled and 2 weeks later I was braced.

I got 2 teeth pulled a week after my braces were put on. The ortho just put all the brackets on but only put the wire on the teeth up to the ones that were being pulled. A week after the teeth were pulled, I was rewired.

Same here, I had four extractions and The ortho I could go in the same day to get my braces on. But when I called to schedule an appointment, They told me that they didnt have appointments till one week later.

I had 2 x upper 5's extracted 1 week after braces went on (extraction proving unavoidable as previously hoped). The archwire remained in place but he took the brackets off the teeth being removed and snipped the archwire either side of them.

Second set of bands go on uppers and lowers this morning. The worst bit is the second round of separators; 16 altogether so far!

It's weird how much variation there is in peoples' treatments..
