twisted wire around brackets

#1 Post by MusicIsMyLife »

My ortho put wires (one on each side) that he wrapped around a bracket, braided it, then wrapped around the next bracket. He did this around my premolars on each side of my upper arch. I was wondering what this is for?
You can see it behind my regular wire in this pic:

I had something very similar to this, and my orthodontist explained (as he was putting it on) that it was pretty much like a powerchain, did the same job, only a wire instead of whatever material they normally use ;).
Damon 2's top and bottom, BRACED 02/22/04 and REMOVED 08/29/05. Now in bonded retainers (top and bottom) :4 wisdom teeth surgically removed on 12/22/05:

I think it creates alittle more pressure for movement just like when they use wire ties instead of o-rings.
