Tops off - but diastema?

Hi - the day before my tops came off I noticed a very slight space had opened up between my top front teeth. My ortho didn't say anything and off came the tops and now I have a bonded retainer. I don't mind the small space, but am wondering:

- is there a risk that it'll get bigger over time (in which case I think I should fix it now)

- is it ok to remove braces when even a small gap has come out?

bye the way, I never had a gap when I started in braces - in fact my teeth were crowded.
