Getting married 9 days after debracing... Advice please!!

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Getting married 9 days after debracing... Advice please!!

#1 Post by Holly1280 »

I haven't posted for a long time due to lots of happenings in my life... I'm getting married in 10 days (YAY!!) and getting my braces off tomorrow. My question is this: can I fore-go retainers on my wedding day? I'm afraid that I won't be used to talking in them by then and will look silly in pictures, but I don't want my teeth to move too badly.

Anyone have any advice on this one?? I'd really appreciate it!!

Also, I would like to whiten my teeth, but don't have an appt. for that and probably won't be able to before the wedding. Should I go the Crest whitestrips route? That's probably the most accessible at the moment. Anyone have good results with them?
Brace-faced since 1/21/05!

I had my braces removed for my wedding and didn't wear my retainer from the time I got married to when I went to bed. didn't seem to make a difference. Your teeth may hurt a little as they readjust, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope everything goes great for you on your special day!

Congrats on both the debanding and the wedding!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D I would suggest wearing your retainers as much as possible, but of course not during the pictures or the ceremony......or the reception if you don't feel comfortable wearing them. As for the whitestrips, I tried Crest Whitestrips Premium and liked them very much, they worked for me within 2 days. They didn't get my teeth movie-star white, but they looked naturally pearly :). Good luck and have fun!!!! I am so excited for you!

I would say you could definately skip a day wearing your retainer for the wedding, as long as you wear it at night and as much as you can beforehand. I just got my braces off 6 days ago and already my teeth feel pretty stable. I wouldn't go without the retainer for a regular day, but for your wedding I would definately skip it!

As for whitening, I use crest whitestrips premium-they work in days I swear to you they're great!

Good luck and have a fantastic wedding!

I think you would be OK. I didn't even get my retainers until two weeks after I got my braces off, so on "day 9" after debonding, I still had no retainers to even wear! My ortho didn't seem concerned at all that I had no retainers for about 14 days. And when I got my retainers, they fit fine. I did had a lower tooth start to shift, but the ortho knew that since it wouldn't stay straight even with braces (and now the retainer is pushing it up with a spring now). I must say, wearing retainers all the time hasn't been easy!

Have a wonderful wedding!! :)
Debanded in May, 2006! Total sentence: Three years and two months. Now in hawleys which make me gag! Before braces, I had dracula fangs in their own rows, and everything else was crooked, crowded, with a cross-bite, too!
