Debraced - 24/7 Essix for 2 months and a LISP??!

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Debraced - 24/7 Essix for 2 months and a LISP??!

#1 Post by asu1983 »

I was debraced yesterday and had 3 hours of glorious freedom (great results!), but I came back and had my Essix tops/bottoms put in and my lisp is OUTRAGEOUS! Does this go away? My s's are terrible.

Does anyone really wear these things 24/7? Can't I just wear these things when I'm home?? I don't know if I'll make it! Help!

The LISP will go away... your mouth just has to have time to adjust to it. Everytime you get something new, there is always an adjustment period. EVERYONE gets a lisp when they first get a retainer.. BUT DONT WORRY!! it will go away with time.... be patient...

BY THE WAY CONGRATS ON GETTING THEM OFF!!!!! :D

Awesome, thanks. I really hope so. It's getting better day by day, but hopefully it goes away soon!!!! Did everyone in Essix follow the 24/7 thing faithfully? I kind of wonder if I can get away with a break or two throughout the day.

Feels like it's going away everyday just a little bit more. I've asked a few people if they've noticed and they didn't even know what i was talking about
