Hi all,
I posted about my new Hawley retainer some time ago :
viewtopic.php?t=16954
Now, I experience that when I have it not in for some hours, my teeth start to
hurt. Even my jaws hurt then. Ok, I know my Hawley has an extra spring and is
therefor an active appliance. But it feels like my mouth and teeth get addicted to
this Hawley. Not worrying right now, as I need to wear it 24/7 anyway. But I
did not expect that this Hawley would be so ... active.
So my question to you. Do you experience this "addiction" too ?

Hi Clo. Glad your Hawley is doing it's job. Yes, I just have a regular Hawley for the top arch. I wear it 10 hours evening and night. After about 8 to 10 hours without it, I can tell that my teeth have shifted some....
Good luck to you, Attagirl

Had Damon 3 / Smart Clips for almost 2 years
Now in Hawley upper 10 hours/day, permanent lower retainers

Hi Clo ! Yes, I am "addicted" to my hawleys, only because my bite is better with them in than with them out at the moment thanks to the fake teeth in the lower hawley for the time being prior to getting my permanent ones.
I have springs too on 3 molars. I can't say they are doing much of anything but irritate my 2nd molar.
Since I only take them out to eat I don't notice any pain when not wearing them, but individual teeth ache from time to time.

I suspose you could say that I am kinda addicted too. I think that it's more of a relaxed feeling when it's in. I'm still in the 24/7 retainer wear stage so whenever I take my retainer out I'm thinking "Are these little suckers trying to move" grrrrr don't get me started see "OMG Teeth Still Move" (With Retainer) post!
As for pain I did experience it alot in the first couple of days of getting my retainer but not so much now. Yet when I do take them out to eat (say if its about 20 mins) I do notice my teeth are abit achy when I put my retainer back in. Nothing to write home about though.
