Can i drink soda with my hawley/essix in?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Can i drink soda with my hawley/essix in?

#1 Post by Scott19 »

I just got my retainers today, essix on top and hawley on bottom, would it be best for me to take them off every time i drink soda? Probably should'nt be an issue, just double checking :D

I don't know the official answer to this, but I wouldn't drink anything that you wouldn't soak your retainer in. Also, the sugar from the soda may not wash down easily resulting in cavities...especially with the Essix.

Not sure...just my 2 cents. I suppose using a straw would be the safest way to go if you can't take them out. And retainers or not, it's always best to rinse with water afterward.

I drink non-sugared drinks with my hawleys in but I wouldn't drink soda because of the "plaque" risk. As for the essix, get use to taking them out because one day you will accidentally forget they are in and drink HOT liquids (a big no-no with Essix).
