Retainer Forgetfulness
Yeah I had braces from the age of 3 to 11 (20 now) when i got my retainer it was awesome so happy but i took it out cuz I stopped going to the dentist and my teeth moved a bit I put it back in. Thing is I forgot some things like did I sleep with it or not and stuff and I am afraid to go back to that dentist his staff were mean. I remember wearing it all the time but can't remember sleeping with it. I know may people have night stuff but I am not sure. Suggestions?
A four year old with a retainer!
I have a friend whose 4 year old was just given retainers... in the hopes they dont need braces later...
I was amazed

Before everyone gets hostile, I will jump in here.
First of all, it is very unususal for a child of 3 to get braces, so Pokygirl please understand why everyone is being very suspicious of you. We have had many "fake" stories on this board in the past. I'm still undecided if yours is one of them.
If you are just posting this stuff to get your kicks, then please leave now. However, if your story is legit, then please forgive our members for being suspicious and continue. The members of this board are usually very friendly and helpful. It's just that we've been "burned" by fake stories before and are tired of them.
By the way, just so everyone knows, the IP address is actually from Arkansas.

OK, to answer your question, Pokygirl -- you do not need to go back to the same dentist if you did not like him and his staff. Find an ORTHODONTIST in your area who could advise you about retainer wear. Usually people wear retainers 24/7 for the first several months after braces come off. Then, they can switch to wearing them only at night. If you don't wear your retainers regularly, your teeth may begin to shift and then your retainers won't fit anymore -- you will have to get new ones made (cost is usually about $250 or more).

I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
no i totally get why people think its a fake story but its not. the dentist told my mom that i didnt have enough room for my new teeth to come up. why i had then til 11 i dont know i thought it was because of my underbite. my dad says hes just a fraud. i never really liked going to him his assistants did most of the work and i always got the one who hurt my sisters jaw once. so i doubt he was sane. anyways the retainer is fitting alot better now. and i know i can sleep with it. so im happy atleast i figured it out on my own.
