Which retainer do I wear?

So I have an essix and wire retainer for my top teeth now. I wasn't given any instructions on which one I should wear ... only to wear a retainer 12 hours a day. Any one have any guesses? Is one better than the other? Why do I even have two?!

Also, dumb question, but how should you take the wire retainer out? Is it okay to pull on the hook wires that go over your canines?

I love that my ortho gave me no information about this . . .

Help?

I thought you took the hawley out by the bend right behind the loops. Do you know what I mean. Well mine does wrap all the way around. Anyways.
