I'm free! (and naked)

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

I got my braces off today!!!!!!

The worst thing was getting off that stubborn glue. And the polishing. I didn't know why my upper teeth were so sensitive. Is there a reason why?

Anyway, I am happy with the results, the crowding seemed to go away when the hygenist put the permanent retainer on. But there does seem to be a little gap, that probably won't go away because of how my tooth is shaped. But really only I can notice it.

I got permanent retainers on top and bottom and an essix for the four front teeth.

I can't post pictures because I don't know how.

YAY! I got my braces off! :D

YEAH!!!

So happy for you!

I hated the glue grinding part and the polishing also.

I love the results on my teeth.

If you want, you can check out this thread: viewtopic.php?t=11741

Congratulations! I'm right behind you getting mine off December 13th! I can't wait! I'll be getting the bonded retainers on top and bottom also! Will yours be for just a year on the top or for the rest of your life? How hard is it to get the Essix retainers over the bonded retainers?

Essix + permanent retainer

#10 Post by tdc03 »

My ortho said my top perm retainer would be in for two years. The bottom one should last for about 10 years, if something should happen, then I have to go back to the office to get it fixed.

Having the essix on top over my perm is quite easy! I'm getting two new retainers at my next visit. They first applied my perm retainer on, then did the mold for my essix so it would fit nicely. My essix is snug when i put it on, but doesn't hurt. I think having both the perm top and bottom gives your teeth nice stability, because after i got the braces off, my teeth didn't hurt anymore!!!! hooray! The only downside is flossing, but I can live with that. My teeth moved so much during treatment they needed a permanent retainer.
