on for "retention purposes"

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

on for "retention purposes"

#1 Post by starryeyedfairy »

hello all
a little while ago (mid january) my ortho signalled that "the end is near"
so she said that she wasn't going to move anything anymore, and just leave the BRACES on for retention purposes
now just GENERALLY speaking, how long do retention purposes/procedures take, before the braces come off
and the real retention of the retaainers begin

hi bracedagain
thanks for your reply :)
i was just wondering in terms of generally speaking - how long are braces left on for when there is no more work to be done, but retain the current state the teeth are in.
i hope before summer begins! :)

It's hard to tell, since your ortho is probably leaving them on to make your teeth more stable. My guess is it won't be that long, because your teeth will continue to move with brackets and archwires... So really, your best bet is to give them a call, or ask at your next adjustment.
