Braces off, glue still here

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Braces off, glue still here

#1 Post by finallystraight88 »

I got my braces off yesterday, and I thought the hygienist did a good job of getting the excess glue off at the time. When I brushed my teeth that night, I discovered there is still some glue or glue residue left on my teeth. I can't brush it off, it's so hard it feels like part of my tooth. I've made an appointment for a cleaning, but does anyone know a good way to clean some of this off in the meantime?

Tiny bits of glue

I have no idea how to get it off other than to bring it up when I go to ortho for the final retainers. Or to ask the hygienist at the next dental visit. It's not really bothering me after several days, so I might just let the hygienist have a go at it, if she feels it is necessary. Otherwise, it's not stopping me from brushing or flossing, and if it doesn't give me cavities, I don't really care.

I'm talking about my back molars here, of course. If it were the front teeth, that might be completely different.

Hi. I still have my braces on (I envy you!!) but I've been reading up online A LOT of these issues, and you must go get that sanded away by the doc. Apparently it's super-super-super-clue and you won't be able to get rid of it.

G'luck!
