anyone get sore teeth with the bonded

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

anyone get sore teeth with the bonded

#1 Post by Higgy »

I have bonded upper and lower retainers....noticing today (3 days after it was put in) that my bottom teeth are rather sore! I still have my brackets, so maybe that's part of it??

Could be due to movement still happening with your teeth. My ortho did a lot of tweaking in the final weeks.

Only upper bonded retainer

There's just one bonded retainer, and it's on my two front upper teeth. For a couple of days there was some soreness, similar to when adjustments would be made, although less so. Now it's completely gone. The teeth feel fine and I'm glad the retainer is there to help keep the teeth together.

As my ortho said, this way I won't be "married" to my removable retainer.

Yeah, I guess so, since the sorness is gone now, but I also had a new powerchain put on, so that may have done it. I don't know if I'm in the norm category or not, but mine were put in a few weeks before debanding, and I won't have any other type of retainer once the brackets are gone.

Hmmm perhaps a little bit, yes. Especially since my lower bonded retainer has just popped off of two teeth on the bottom! Ugh. I made it all the way through braces without breaking a wire or a bracket, and now that, there goes my perfect record!

I thought it was interesting that I had some soreness after getting debanded and getting my essix retainers. But it wasn't any different than the soreness I would get after any typical adjustment, only instead of getting a new wire or whatever I got retainers!

Just an update on the bonded retainer...it's getting fixed tomorrow morning. I was hoping that they would have had a cancelation and I could get my braces off then as well, but alas, that didn't happen.
