Gum pressure points?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Gum pressure points?

#1 Post by LadyGoddess »

I got my braces taken off on March 31st and was given a metal wire retainer on the bottom front six and an Essex retainer on top.

Last night I noticed my gums on the bottom have started to bleed when I brush my teeth. I took a look and it shows the teeth on either side of the ones bonded together have a dark red spot at their bases. This is also the place where my gums are bleeding.

Is this normal?

Also when will it be safe to whiten my teeth? They look a bit yellow. :-(

Bleeding gums are never normal. Are you flossing regularly? Swish with warm salt water for awhile.

If thats not the issue, get back to your ortho and see if its the retainer thats putting pressure in certain areas of the gum.
