Grinding more?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Grinding more?

#1 Post by *betty* »

I've been wearing my essix retainers nightly for about three months now (upper and lower) and I've always been a tooth grinder - but i find I'm grinding more now!

As well as being a bit stressed at the moment I seem to find the retainers very 'chewy' and seem to be clenching on them a lot in my sleep.

I now have blocked ears and wonder if it's related - though I do also suffer from allergies and find my year round rhinitis worse at this time of year any way and have always been prone to 'itchy' ears at night. I'm using a sterdiod nasal spray but it will take some time to work.

I was told that after about three months I could wear my retainers just four or so nights a week. Anyone else do this?

All I can say is check out

www.splintek.com

I wear it religiously with my retainers on also and I have beat the grinding habit. My jaw joints don't hurt any more and its comfortable to wear. It costs about $40 and you can get it in most drug stores.

Thank you for the reply. I'll see if we have them in the UK.
