My teeth have been freed!

#1 Post by ripchord »

Hey everyone! I usually post on the braces stories forum, but since I got my braces off today I thought I'd post here :)

That's the end result of 27 months in braces (you can find before and more after pictures in my braces story if you'd like), and I am completely satisfied with it. However, I've been having some tooth pain. I got my temporary essix retainers today (I'll have them for 2 weeks before I get my hawleys) and I'm not sure if that's the culprit for my pain or it's just because of the change in pressure. It's mostly the molars that had bands on them that are hurting right now. Has anyone had this? When should it subside? Thanks in advance :)

Conrats and looks good.

I am 6 weeks post braces and still have minor sensitivity in a few teeth. I go back next week and I hope to ask them if that's normal and if so when it will subside. It only happens occasionally esp. in the morning....I assume since I've been in a retainer for like 8+ hours without removin them.

Thank allisun and kirjax :)

My pain actually did subside. It's more of a sensitivity rather than pain. Maybe it was the retainers, but I'm not sure. I asked someone I know who had their braces off a while ago and they said that the gaps that the metal bands leave actually do close with the retainer, so maybe that's why it was bothering me.

I hope your pain subsides soon, kirjax :) Hopefully it's normal. I doubt anything is wrong!

Your teeth are beautiful! :)

I never had molar bands, so I didn't experience any soreness after I got my braces off. However, that sounds very likely, as to the cause of the soreness.

It won't let me edit my previous post, but I also wanted to say that I was also fifteen when I got my braces off :D I just turned twenty-five, and I still wear retainers at night! Definitely keep wearing them, or your teeth might shift!

Did you get the gingivectomy? If so, how did it go?

Thanks Kristiana and PfectPitch.

Kristiana, I didn't get a gingivectomy yet. My mom advised me to wait until I'm a bit older to make that decision and I think my teeth look decently longer without braces. I can wait a couple years :) I will definitely be wearing my retainers! I've never had them out for over an hour and I get nightmares about them shifting! The soreness is going away but since there's a gap a lot of food gets stuck and the gums get sore from being poked so much by it.

Congrats, PfectPitch, for getting debanded :D I agree, it's totally worth it.
