Uneven eyes
I was just wondering whether anyone else has had any drastic facial change after braces? Mine would definitely be my eyes... my right eye is now about an inch higher than my left, and it's made me as self conscious as I was before my braces..... I honestly had no clue this would happen!
I know I've mentioned this briefly before, but my eyes are very much like that of Shannen Doherty's. Seeing as she hasn't gotten her eyes fixed, is there no treatment for this?

Hmm, never heard of eye location being affected. Just doesn't seem that our eye sockets and upper skull would be impacted by the movement of our teeth. When I was a kid I had a narrow pallet, and an expander and braces helped fill out my face, but as an adult using braces for a jaw issue, I have seen no difference in my face since beginning my treatment about a year ago. Remember that we judge ourselves much more harshly than others. So, unless someone breaks out a ruler or a level and tries to see if your eyes are perfectly even, I just don't think people will notice, or care for that matter. Just remember, that it is human nature to scrutinize every tiny detail about ourselves, and that most likely, everyone around you is just as self-conscious about their own features as you are of your own.

Well, actually, I did get a palatal expander when I was 14. It worked very well until I noticed one side of my face was getting lopsided. Turns out that half of the sutures already closed up prematurely causing one side of my palate to be expanded more than the other. They weren't able to fix this, but used a mini-screw to try pull things back in place. It did help, but I still have my crossbite on my right side.
I was volunteering at school at a bake sale, then one of the kids I was catering to just went "OMG EW whats wrong with your eye! Your left is higher than the other...... but you're still pretty" That kinda got me really self-conscious. Sometimes in the school toilets, the girls would go "Haha your eyes are lopsided!" and I would just laugh it off... I'm 17 now, I'm still young, but I don't want to live like this forever!

Yeah. It was the expander that affected it. The braces helped make the unevenness less obvious but the lopsidedness of my eyes are still really obvious. My right eye is about an inch higher than my left (yeah, like Shannen Doherty).

I know it's kind of an old thread but I'll chime in since I've kinda noticed the same thing over about the past year. I think in my case it's just something I was born with, even though to me it's become slightly more apparent in recent months. But looking back at old pictures I can see it was always like that, just maybe not as obvious since I had a little more fat around my face. Nobody's face is perfectly symmetrical. I've heard you can use photoshop to copy one side of your face to the other to make it perfectly symmetrical, it looks pretty weird.
