Tooth Button with Hawley Retainer, need help

#1 Post by wcllana »

I had a clear button or bump added to one tooth to help pull it down a bit as part of my refinements. The retainer wire now sits on top of the button and it must be working because the tooth is feeling a little sore right now.

Here's the problem. I don't know how to take the retainer out now. I struggled with it for at least ten minutes before lunch and managed to get it off somehow, but I really don't know how I did it. The retainer is wire is held extremely tight because its sits on top of the button and just doesn't want to budge forward so I can slip over and past the bump.

Now I'm worried I'm going to either bend the retainer wire, break the whole retainer or rip the button off the tooth trying to remove my retainer.

Any ideas Archwired friends?
