I was just wondering if any of you, when you try to picture the way your teeth look, see a bit of a distorted, exaggerated view of the flaws and/or see yourself as still having your old teeth? I'll be debanded in 2 days (July 13th) and everytime I try to imagine what my teeth will look like, I can't help but be terrified because I picture them as being worse than they are. Then I get up and look in a mirror and my confidence is a little restored, as my teeth are nice.
What do you think? Does it take time to adjust to having a pretty smile for the first time in your life?

You first Posted on Sunday Jul 11, 2010 at 5:21 pm then you respond on Sun Jul 11, 2010 at 9:32 pm. Sorry to bust your patients but people have lifes and live all around the world. It may take up to 24 to 48 hours before someone responds to your question. So sit back and be a little patient epj0819epj0819 wrote:Really? No one has any thoughts at all????
Meeeee! I totally understand u! I get my molar bands off on July 14, impressions for retainers....about 2 weeks later totally debanded with retainers. I am sooo scared what my teeth/smile will look like. I try to imagine it while looking in the mirror. They are wayyy better compared to how they were 2 years ago but still I worry if I will look weird. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!!

Oops I forgot to respond to your question also and there is no edit button. Anyways when I had braces two years ago I didn't know what to expect and feared for the worse before braces came off. Then I took a look in the mirror and noted it's not as bad as I expected it to be. I'm sure you will be happy with the results, just keep the retainers in and follow through with the instructions the orthodontist gives you about retainers.epj0819 wrote: What do you think? Me Too!
I totally feel your pain. I do the same thing of imagining things to be worse than they are. Then I go to the mirror and it isn't as bad as I imagined. Then the cycle begins again. I SOOOOO hope that the insecurity will eventually go away and one does eventually adjust.
good topic.
