Retainer tightness

#1 Post by almost50 »

I've had my hawley retainers for 3 weeks now. l've noticed the bottom one gradually getting tighter and tighter as I take it out and put it back in. Top one is fine.
I wear them religiously only taking them out to eat and brush my teeth.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

I've been wearing my Essex retainers religiously, but I find that sometimes two to three hours can go by before I finish eating and then get to brushing. By that time, my bottom retainer is tight going back in, particularly on one tooth. If you are without your retainer for a few hours then I'd say--based on my experience--tightness going back in is normal. But if it's tight after only 15-20 min of having it out, then I'd be concerned.
