Issue with Hawley Retainer?

#1 Post by vjwilmoth »

I am finally out of braces! YAY!

So I initially got my Essix retainer and 2 weeks later promptly threw it away at work. OMG! I took the trash home even to look through it 3 times and couldn't find it. I've come to the conclusion that the ONE time I probably used the other trash can was that day. I didn't even occur to me to take them both home. Anyway, I called my ortho and they weren't going to be back in the office until Monday(lost the retainer on Thursday). So I stressed out about my teeth shifting all weekend and finally went in on Tuesday and had a new Essix made.

Yesterday I got my Hawley(for the uppers) and it doesn't touch the roof of my mouth and one of the wire "claws" pushes so hard on my tooth that it gives me a splitting headache. I actually took a pair of pliers and adjusted it but it still pushes very hard. Incidentally it's a tooth I was worried would move when I had lost my initial retainer. Blah! The wire that goes across the front of my teeth is also near the bottom instead of in the middle. NOW let me say that I got to keep my mold that the Hawley retainer came on and it fits that version of my teeth/roof perfectly. Soooo, what the heck do I do?

Oh and to make even more fun just from wearing my Hawley for 2 days now my re-made Essix doesn't fit. lol! So I'm probably going to have to have a new one of those made too. OMG! Drama!
