Sore teeth after braces remove

Well, it has been two weeks since my braces were removed. I am wearing a top and bottom Hawley retainer. The problem is my teeth are sore. I can not bite with my front teeth and can not chew on one side due to soreness. Shouldn't my teeth feel better by now. This has ruined any joy of having my braces removed. I feel I will never have pain free teeth again!

I'm sure you are just going through a "settling" phase and the teeth eventually will re-adjust themselves. I am always amazed throughout treatment how the body learns to adjust itself to pain and this new configuration and heal itself, teeth are only bones after all and not really meant to move that much!

Maybe carefully chewing some gum on the non-sore side would help them settle in a bit. If not I would call the Orthodontist and ask for some advice.

What?? Your teeth are sore AFTER your braces?? This is terrible! I always thought that once removing braces you can go back to your regular eating habits and favorite foods!!

I am in the same boat.

I had my braces removed 2 months ago and my teeth are still sore. But, not near as sore as they were in the first 2 weeks.

I wear my retainers (upper essix and lower hawley) all the time but take them in and out to eat and my teeth hurt when the retainers are not in for more than 1/2 hour. Sadly, my essix broke while I was brushing it (gently) the other day, it literally split down the middle so, I had a Hawley made for the tops and have been retainer free for one week now while its being made and the first two days I could not even touch my left upper tooth it was so sore. I cannot bite with my front teeth they are so sore still and this is two months later.

My lower teeth hurt so much after being debanded I could only eat with my very back molars and I also had NO idea that teeth could hurt this much with the braces off.

Worth it tho, as my smile is gorgeous and teeth straight, but yes 2 months later my teeth are still sore, no where near as sore as the first fee weeks tho. I am hoping this does go away someday tho...

I had my braces removed in July 2010 after 20 months treatment. My teeth were quite sore to start with - probably the first couple of months. I definately didn't go out and eat anything I wanted. I can honestly say it took nearly a year for my teeth to really feel as though they 'belonged' to me again. I am now 56 so age might be a factor - they feel really comfortable now!!

I was debanded on Monday 11/21/2011. I had a couple of days of soreness, but I'm fine now. Every once in a while my molars will ache a bit.

I'm in a permanent bottom and a hawley top.

I didn't really notice any wiggly teeth at the end of my treatment - I had them when I first had braces.
