Post braces and not happy with the curve of my bite

#1 Post by VA5 »

My bite relation is fine, however what I don't like is that my top canines are extruded too much, while my bottom canines/molar is intruded too much. So the way my bite looks when I smile is not really that nice straight curve, it's more "wavy" than I like. Maybe a dentist here would understand my explanation. When I smile, the teeth don't really follow my smile, it is more "straight" looking and honestly just looks funny.. doesn't make for the prettiest smile b/c what happens is you see more of my posterior teeth than my anterior teeth, if that makes sense.

What I want is for my top canines to be intruded (or shaved down) and my bottom canine/molar that is directly below it to be extruded. I am post-braces and have fixed retainers and also essix retainers at night.

HOW can this be fixed at this point... with hawley retainers??? Can they intrude, extrude teeth? Or, can I get my top canines shaved and get molar buildups on the bottom??

You could try something called the Inman aligner. its like a hawley but puts pressures to align the front 6 teeth. If not then you can try Hawley.

Is an inman aligner like a retainer?? I don't know a thing about it or what it looks like.

I've seen intrusion/extrusion done with hawleys. It's best if you have a "button" cemented on the tooth and then a spring activated on the button. Just an idea. Not positive, but I can't see that being done with clear or inman aligners

That's great to hear. I think I will ask my ortho for a hawley then and see if that will work in my case. Crossing my fingers b/c I can't stand it. This sounds funny.. but sometimes I will draw some eyeliner at the bottom of my canines to make the top canines look shorter, and smile, and it looks SO much better if the canines are about 2 mm shorter. My smile line looks in line w/my teeth, and the smile is so much prettier. My teeth have that wide shaped u from the front, just as my lips have that wide shiped u. But, I can see how just shaving it might cause a problem b/c my teeth my not touch anymore in that area. So, crossing my fingers that hawleys will do the trick.
