Fixed retainers with braces

I am getting my braces off in 30 days. Anyway, this week, my ortho put fixed retainers in the back of my teeth (top and bottom fixed retainers) while braced.She said she wants me in the Hawley at night even though I wanted the Essix originally for night time wear. I requested the fixed retainers after my molds appointment a week and a half ago because I had problems with crowding in my teeth in my teens. Anyway, how will the Hawley fit over the fixed retainers for night time wear? She took the molds before the fixed retainers were put in.

It's pretty common more than you think, to have hawleys with the permenant retainers. They fit over quite easy, especially with todays technology.

So do they take off some of the plastic from the Hawley retainer? Also, any reason why an ortho would put fixed retainers an appointment before debracing

Hawleys and bonded - this is the setup I'll eventually have, albiet through a different path. I will have a positioner in between. I'm kinda glad, because Hawleys are a lot easier to deal with and they last forever. I had both as a kid.

Your teeth could be done and your ortho is just leaving the braces on while they settle. Common practice.

well basically they do impressions for the retainers with those on. But they wouldn't take off any plastic because permenant retainers arent big at all.

So do they have to do the impressions again? I had the impressions done before the fixed retainers were placed in my mouth.
