Inflammation

#1 Post by bereflected »

I just got out of braces and had them for 3 years and 9 mos. I'm in my 30's, so this question may not apply to most as I hear adult braces are more painful, but I have a few teeth that are throbbing pretty badly; upper right molars. I had dentist take X-ray today and he said I had some inflammation with one of the molars and it was probably just due to teeth settling a bit. My Ortho gave me some Rx toothpaste for sensitivity after I complained about pain later the same day I had them removed. I had dentist take the X-ray cause the Ortho didn't seem concerned, but I was stressing too badly that I had a cracked tooth or something. I was also concerned because getting my braces removed was an awful experience although I'm so glad it's over. Removal was worst part of treatment for me as far as pain concerned. My teeth took a beating getting all the glue off, etc. Has anyone experienced a toothache after removal? I'm not talking about the typical toothache due to adjustment, I'm talking dull, but throbbing pain.

Sorry to hear of your rough experience. In contrast, my braces seemed to pop off with very little force. I was surprised. And grinding the glue off was not very uncomfortable.

I still have bite problems, but that's another story . . .

I had serious pain for about three weeks after my braces came off. It felt like when you have an abcess that needs a root canal, but it was the whole of the back bottom of my jaw that hurt, not one particular tooth. I was at the dentist, ortho and hygenist multiple times a week trying to figure out what was wrong, had x-rays and vitality probes, TMJ exercises and all sorts. I was also eating my way through boxes of codeine at this point. No one could figure out what the problem was and they were all set to refer me to the hospital when.... it just suddenly stopped. Very weird, no explanation, but it went away never to return!

I had a lot of tooth pain the first week and a half that my braces were off. My top row teeth were very sensitive and hurt and my gums were inflammed. What really helped me out was putting Anbesol along my gum line. Eventually the pain did go away and I no longer needed the Anbesol....so try that out...it DEF helps with the pain
