How many retainer check ups can I expect?

I get that these check ups are important but I thought my journey was over. How long do people have to keep going to their ortho after getting their retainers?

Hi there, I am still going for checkups 2 years later - it has been about 12 months since my last check though. They will be taking photos at my next checkup then I suspect I won't be seeing them for a while. The checkups are to make sure your teeth and retainers are still all ok.

I just got my braces off 6 weeks ago. I have my first recheck (to check the retainers, I guess) in 2 weeks. I didn't know I would have to keep seeing my orthodontist forever. I did not know. I thought braces on, braces off, boom, done. Not so.

I am considering updating my facebook status to "in a relationship" since it seems he and I will be in a professional relationship forever and ever.
