Teeth whitening!

#1 Post by johnnys_angel »

Alright! Since removal of your braces, how many of you have tried whitening, and which brand do you swear by? I am honestly in love with Bon Jovi's teeth (lol) and I want mine to be as white/almost as white as his! Any ideas/suggestions?

I've used a few things...not really happy with any of the results. When I can afford it I'm going to get some custom trays made. I think that is the problem, not the formulation of the stuff I've tried. The trays that come with stuff like Rembrandt Professional white are just too big and floppy.

I haven't tried crest strips, but I have tried the store brand. I didn't like them. They are thick and yucky.

I also have one of those white light thingies. I only used it once so I don't know if it works or not. I just don't have the patience to sit with my mouth closed for that long (only 10-20 minutes).

Best of luck to you,
Jenn

I did in-office whitening

#3 Post by BracesAt42 »

I had my teeth whitened by my dentist (in-office visits) a few days after my braces came off. He used a peroxide solution and each arch took about 1 hour (we did the top arch twice - 2 visits, and the bottom arch once - 1 visit).

My teeth whitened two levels on the color chart, and I am pleased with the results.

The process was not painful while it was in progress, but my teeth really ached the first 2 or 3 hours after each procedure.

I had no staining from having had braces, but my teeth were definitely yellowed from years of coffee, red wine, etc.

I've tried the Oral B whitening strips and them seem to do a decent job I only had to wear them for 7 days. I really liked these better than the crest white strips because they were thicker and stayed in place. I've also been using the Rembrandt whitening tooth paste.
At this point I'm satisfied with the shade of my teeth and I do not plan to get any additional professional whitening done.

Thanks for the awesome replies! I think I will try some Oral-B or Crest whitestrips, and if that doesn't help maybe I will go to a dentist. Thanks again :)

I went ahead and had Zoom done with my dentist (and they made the trays for me as well). I got up to the highest shade of white with the laser and was beyond thrilled. I do an upkeep whitening with the trays every so often and am still loyal about making sure I brush/rise/drink with a straw with anything colored/dyed.

Before I had braces I used crest whitestrips and it only took one to see a difference. I never did go through the entire box but I think I will use these instead of having the dentist do the whitening since I liked them and they seemed to work.

Laser Teeth Whitening AT HOME that really works!

#8 Post by bigbear777 »

Found a great whitening kit that actually worked. I had to try 4 laser whiteing kits on e-bay and this one actually works. When it comes to these kits DO NOT try tp save a few bucks. You get what you pay for! http://www.perfectlywhite.com

This looks rather dangerous to me. First of all, 35% carbonide peroxide is an extremely high percentage and would do serious damage to any tissue it lands on besides teeth. That's why dentists use this percentage IN OFFICE where they can control it. It also would probably make your teeth extremely sensitive if left on too long, if you are prone to sensitivity. The spam spam light ensures that there is no sensitivity? Really, where did they get THAT information from?

Regarding the spam spam light -- if it is a real spam spam light -- you need to shield your eyes from this when you flash it at your face. Have you ever noticed that when orthos apply brackets to the teeth and set them with a spam spam light, they wear special glasses, there is a special orange shield on the light, and you are instructed to keep your eyes closed?

Sorry, but this does not look good to me. Just my opinion based on the research I've done. The website also looks rather amateurish and there is no contact address or phone number. Looks like a bunch of red flags to me.

Read the article I wrote last year on this subject:

I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

whitening

My ortho gave me trays made from my impressions and some syringes of a whitening gel by Ultradent (I think that's the brand) called Opalescense. It's REALLY good! My teeth are movie star white. I didn't get the bottom one the first two weeks so I used Crest White Strips on the bottom. They worked but not as well. Also, the whitestrips irritated my gums. Weird too because I know the solution on the whitestrips is a little less intense. Maybe it's something else? Or maybe that I have a tray on the top?? Not too sure.

My new dentist gives all of his new patients free whitening kits. He did the impressions, gave me the trays, and sent me home with a 16% carbamide peroxide solution from Nu Radiance.

It's done a pretty good job... I've not been doing it every night or even every other night (I keep forgetting), but its done pretty good in the past 2 or so weeks that I've had it.
